Launching a business during a global pandemic is not for the faint of heart. Luckily my partner and I had the best business mentor we could ask for (shout out to Doug!) During this time I learned about commercial leasing contracts, business licenses, accounting for a business, setting up a brand and website, SEO, developing a social media presence, building out a giant space with sound proof paneling, furniture, film equipment, monitors, developing scheduling systems, and much more.

Once we opened up our studio it was off to the races! During this time I learned how to develop comprehensive curriculums, market classes/events/workshops, cater to student and client needs, manage scheduling for coaches and the space, create programming and a space that reflected our mission and brand, instruct many classes, coach a LOT, and develop habits that help a small business grow.

One year into our doors being open, we gained over 300 new clients. During this period I learned how to hire independent contractors, draft up contracts, negotiate rates, manage a diverse array of programming at the studio, diversify our production side and manage film shoots, and build community initiatives. Our studio was running two taping rooms, a classroom, a workshop space, and a production office.

Once our studio gained momentum, we branched out with managing and producing bigger projects. We flew in top LA casting directors and screenwriters for new workshops, constructed a stage for live comedy shows, and produced and shot a feature length film. During this time I learned the importance of high stakes multitasking - not only was I managing day to day business admin, I was coaching, teaching, writing, producing, building, marketing, and cultivating professional relationships.
